Pacific Gas & Electric Seeks to Raise Rates

Pacific Gas & Electric said it applied for regulatory approval to raise rates by $599 million in 2006 to compensate for higher costs for power and energy efficiency programs.
Average electricity rates will increase 6.5%, with average residential rates rising 10.8%, based on the filing with the California Public Utilities Commission, said California’s largest utility.
