Coroner’s officials Sunday released the names of three cruise ship crew members who died after being exposed to toxic sewer gas as they repaired a waste pipe. The men were identified as Boris Dimitrov, 47, of Varna, Bulgaria; Willie Tirol, 41, of Pangasinan, Philippines; and Radomilja Frane, 48, of Stobrec, Croatia.

An autopsy will be conducted, said Barbara Nelson, investigator for the coroner’s office.

The Monarch of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean line ship, had just returned to the Port of Los Angeles on Friday with about 2,500 passengers and 850 crew members when the incident occurred. Crew members were replacing a section of pipe connected to the ship’s sewage system at the time of the accident.

The line expelled about 5 gallons of raw sewage and an unknown amount of gas in the starboard propeller shaft tunnel.
