Anti-Drug Commander Slain in Ambush

The commander of anti-drug operations in the Mexican resort of Playa de Carmen was killed in an ambush outside his home.
Carlos Hiram Rodriguez Alvarado headed an anti-drug squad known as the Dragon Group in the town, just south of Cancun. Officials said three assailants shot him several times and he died at the scene.
Authorities said Rodriguez Alvarado had recently arrested the son of a major local drug distributor on trafficking charges.
