A decade of staying on top

Rockclimbing.com

In the 10 years since Trevor Allred created a website on Utah climbing areas, Rockclimbing.com has grown to become the preeminent location for climbers around the world.

Its success stems from keeping the site easy to navigate, relatively free of ads and powered by contributions from ordinary climbers.

The site’s lead photo changes several times a day as people send in images of astounding climbs in progress or rescues on remote peaks. A “route finder” button helps locate climbable cliffs on five continents, and an “open source” component of this feature allows a user to suggest changes to or make comments on an existing route.

Prominent on the main page are posts from the site’s popular climbing forums. The site also devotes space to world climbing news, gear reviews, access issues and upcoming events. You can even find a climbing partner or swap gear on the site’s classified listings.
