Apartment Fire Kills 2 Children Who Were Left at Home Alone
Two young children who had been left home alone died in an apartment fire in Highland on Saturday morning, authorities said.
The fire broke out about 9 a.m. in the apartment in the 26000 block of Victoria Avenue, where the 6-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother were sleeping.
Robin Haynal, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, said the children lived with their mother, whose whereabouts were not known.
The girl died at the scene. Her brother was transported to St. Bernardine Medical Center, where he later died. The children’s names were not released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
