Typhoon Heads Toward Islands South of Tokyo
From Times Wire Reports
A powerful typhoon approached a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean south of Tokyo and officials warned of heavy rains, strong winds and high waves in the region.
Typhoon Saola, a Vietnamese word for a rare forest-dwelling ox, was packing winds of up to 89 mph south of Hachijo Island, about 185 miles south of Tokyo, and was heading northeast, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said.
The agency said that Saola was expected to bring heavy rain to the Tokyo area today.
