Dehydration a Factor in Farmworker’s Death
A farmworker who died while working in a Kern County field in July suffered from dehydration in the blazing heat, according to a coroner’s report released Thursday.
Augustin Bautista Gudino, 44, was found dead July 20 at Giumarra Vineyards. Last month, the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health began investigating his death, along with 10 others believed to be heat-related this summer.
The state’s workplace safety board approved emergency regulations last month requiring employers to train workers how to avoid heatstroke on sizzling days and to provide breaks in the shade.
