This stretch eases tension after a tough workout

Share

After doing your strength training workout, practice this stretch to release tension and stretch your hips, thighs, back, neck and shoulders. If it’s difficult for you to sit back on your heels, modify the stretch by placing a folded towel between the back of your thighs and calves. This will lift your buttocks slightly off your heels and make the position more comfortable.

1 Kneel on the floor, big toes touching and knees apart. Stretch your arms in front of you, rest your chest on your thighs and place your forehead on the floor. Straighten your arms completely so your elbows are raised off the floor. Lengthen your tailbone away from the crown of your head. Hold for a few breaths.

2 Slowly walk your hands to the right, placing the center of your chest over your right thigh. Keep your shoulders squared to the floor and both elbows straight. Firmly press your hands on the floor and continue to pull your hips away from your hands. Feel the stretch in the left side of your body. Hold for a few breaths, then walk your hands to the left and repeat to stretch the right side of your body.
