Casting: Antonio Banderas will portray Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes in “Conquistador,” a film that is due to begin production in September under the direction of Andrucha Waddington from a screenplay by Nicholas Kazan.

Writing: Los Angeles police detective-turned-novelist Joseph Wambaugh’s next book, “Hollywood Station,” due out at the end of the year from Little, Brown and Company, will be his first book set in L.A. since “The Delta Star” in 1983.

Earning: “Three Days of Rain,” the Broadway production that stars Julia Roberts, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper, grossed a whopping $988,298 for its first full week of preview performances last week, the League of American Theatres and Producers reported.
