Casino’s Makeup Rule Deemed Acceptable

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that Harrah’s casino in Reno had the right to fire a bartender because she refused to wear makeup.
The decision upholds a ruling by a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit in 2004 that found the policy was not sex discrimination because it did not place a greater burden on women than on men.
Harrah’s grooming policy requires women to wear makeup and men to have neatly trimmed hair that does not extend below the shirt collar.
