From some angles, this Pacific Palisades house almost looks like a robot. But it was built in 2000 as a laboratory of sorts.

Cigolle X Coleman, Architects -- the collaborative husband-and-wife team of Mark Cigolle and Kim Coleman -- conceived of TR1 House and Studio as a place to test ideas about light, space and material. The pair also wound up studying the relationship between architecture and landscaping, including views.
