From Times wire reports

A Mediterranean-style diet may help ward off Alzheimer’s disease, a new study suggests.

People who followed the diet were up to 40% less likely than those who largely didn’t to develop Alzheimer’s during the course of the study.

The diet includes eating lots of vegetables, legumes, fruits, cereals and fish, while limiting meat and dairy, drinking moderate amounts of alcohol and choosing monounsaturated fats over saturated fats. Earlier research found that such a diet can reduce heart disease risk. The work was recently published online by the Annals of Neurology.
