L.A. artist wins a Whitney prize

Los Angeles multimedia artist Mark Bradford is the recipient of the 2006 Bucksbaum Award, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York has announced.

The $100,000 prize, named for museum trustee Melva Bucksbaum, is given every two years in recognition of an artist chosen from the Whitney Biennial exhibition. As part of the award, Bradford, known for his sculptures, installations, prints, videos and large-scale paintings exploring urban themes, will be invited to present a solo exhibition at the Whitney.
