‘Dance’ draws a young crowd

The Fox talent show “So You Think You Can Dance” is proving to be in the summer what the network’s “American Idol” is during the winter and spring: the most-watched show among young adults and teens.

The Wednesday night competition was last week’s most-watched program among viewers ages 18 to 49, the group targeted by Fox, ABC and NBC, as well as those ages 18 to 34, continuing the summer-long trend, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

The show tied for the weekly lead among viewers 12 to 17 with another Fox unscripted series, “Hell’s Kitchen.”

The Thursday results show was third for the week among viewers 18 to 49 and tied for third with the animated Fox comedy “Family Guy” among viewers 18 to 34.

For the summer, viewership for the Wednesday and Thursday “So You Think You Can Dance” broadcasts is up 19% both among all viewers and those ages 18 to 49; up 21% among viewers ages 18 to 34; and up 13% among viewers 12 to 17.

For the second consecutive week, a rerun of a CBS drama was the week’s most-watched program, as Thursday’s “Without a Trace” attracted 10.52 million viewers. Among all viewers, CBS was the most-watched network for the ninth week in a row.
