Volcano Alert Raised; 20,000 to Be Evacuated

The Philippines raised the alert on its most active volcano to the second-highest level today and ordered the evacuation of about 20,000 people after three ash explosions signaled a possible eruption within days.
Residents reported seeing the Mayon volcano belching plumes of ash and gases 2,500 feet high.
