A Hong Kong pro-democracy lawmaker was attacked by three unidentified men with baseball bats and truncheons after he attended a protest.

Lawmaker Albert Ho suffered severe facial injuries, colleagues said, adding it may have been a premeditated assault. A hospital spokeswoman said Ho was in stable condition.

Democratic Party member Howard Lam, who was hit in the head and chest trying to protect Ho, said he couldn’t see the attackers clearly because they were wearing caps.
