The burdensome cost of college

Re “The old school cheer,” editorial, Dec. 2

Attending college is a tremendous milestone and accomplishment in anyone’s life. However, affording college is difficult for almost everyone. I attend a Cal State where the tuition is not as expensive as a UC or a private school. I was accepted into both, but because of the financial aid packets offered, I was unable to attend. When giving out financial aid, the government strictly looks at the parents’ income. What about the people like me, whose mother is a schoolteacher and makes a little more than $45,000? Instead of solely taking into account the parents’ income, maybe the parents’ expenses should be considered as well. Making college affordable is absolutely essential. Without educated adults, our country has a dim future.
