Design for a better toilet

Share

RE “Rabbit in a Hat? Try Microwave in a Drawer,” the Nov. 30 story on new designs that hide functional elements of the home: Obviously, Troy Adams, designer of the BenchToilet, has never had to clean a bathroom, nor has he concerned himself with the aesthetics. I imagined a better design the first time I encountered such a chore.

My design would fit easily into any size bathroom and could be custom-made with the assistance of a skilled carpenter and tile layer. A layer of tile would surround the bowl, commencing just below the seat (easy to clean). A second lid (with apologies to those who argue about such things) would close down into a bench of the same material, perhaps with a cushiony cover in an easy-to-clean fabric.

The lower part of the bowl would be hidden from view by a door, which could open in case of plumbing problems. The tank would also be enclosed, serving as a backrest for the bench.

Those who wish to go in style and just can’t wait for someone to fine-tune and produce my imagined design can choose Adams’ version for a mere $11,450 and up.
