Saturn moon looks unlivable after all

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Geysers on Saturn’s moon Enceladus are probably not liquid water, but a mixture of water vapor and ice particles with carbon dioxide and methane, researchers reported Friday in the journal Science.

Researchers had hoped that the geysers, documented by NASA’s Cassini probe orbiting Saturn, contained liquid water that meant life could exist on the moon. The high concentration of carbon dioxide indicates that the geysers are spouting a mixture of ice and gases called clathrates, which would not support life.
