Regarding the Tell column about being “honest” about not liking a gift [“Thank You for the Receipt,” by Barbara E. Hernandez, Dec. 21]: One can be honest without being mean.

I would give anything to receive another gift from my husband, even if it came from the dollar store. I lost my man of 28 years on Dec. 12, and our children and I are still reeling from the loss.

I’m not trying to be preachy or pass judgment, I just want to pass on the message that it’s so important to cherish every moment with your loved ones. Having people in your life who love you enough to give you a present is the greatest gift.
