Eritrea Detains Staff of Peacekeeping Mission
From Times Wire Reports
Thirteen Eritreans employed by the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Eritrea have been detained by local authorities and 30 are in hiding for fear of arrest, the United Nations said.
U.N. chief spokesman Stephane Dujarric said no official reason was given for the detentions.
The arrests have taken place at a time of worsening diplomatic ties between Eritrea and the United Nations over the implementation of a peace agreement ending the Horn of Africa nation’s 1998-2000 border war with Ethiopia.
