The child’s welfare must come first

Re “Memories Shrouded in Doubt,” Dec. 30

I read with great interest and sadness Regina Louise’s story. Sadly, there are still many who believe a black child is better off in the system than with a loving, stable, adoptive white home.

I lost a child to the system because he is black and I am white. He went from a stable, loving, adoptive home to a precarious foster placement. In the end, who will benefit? Not the child. Although social workers and children’s attorneys are entitled to their philosophies, they should not be entitled to play with the lives of vulnerable children. Especially, I believe, the most vulnerable in our society -- poor children of color.
