In Iraq, the people have spoken

Re ‘Iraq’s History Still Divides Children of Mesopotamia,” news analysis, Dec. 29

We should allow Iraq to become democratic. Before the revolution, we were 13 colonies. Afterward, we were 13 states. We then recognized that, as a people with identical ethnic backgrounds (except blacks and Indians), we could form a United States.

Iraq has three ethnic groups that, to preserve their individual identity, voted to divide one country into three states, as shown by the regional voting pattern.

Do not impose our will, but allow them their choice.
