Border death shows Mexico is over the line

Re “Shooting Puts Pressure on Fox,” Jan. 6

Some Mexican commentators and government officials are saying they want a Border Patrol agent tried in their courts in absentia for the death of a Mexican national during a confrontation. They are also suggesting that the U.S. government sign an agreement “that would allow Mexicans to migrate northward ‘in an orderly fashion.’ ”

If they are so concerned, they should do something to stop the Mexicans from breaking U.S. law and make them want to stay in their own country, not try to tell us to change U.S. laws for their benefit. We all regret the death, but he brought it on himself by breaking the U.S. law.

I believe the United States is under more of a threat from Mexico’s insidious and arrogant illegal immigration strategies than we could ever be from Al Qaeda. Our country, its institutions and our unique way of life are in jeopardy and could be dramatically altered by the devious antics of Mexican President Vicente Fox, et al and Mexico’s never-ending supply of people who are willing to break our laws.

If Fox used his energy to help his countrymen instead of sloughing them off on the United States, perhaps Mexico would be a place where its population would want to live.

I think one of the remedies should be to have any new recruit to the U.S. military do a mandatory tour of duty on the U.S. southern border. During the Vietnam War, military personnel served tours of 12 months and then were rotated back to the States. This plan for the border security could be implemented in the same manner.

Things need to change for the good of our country.
