Editing Out Life’s ‘Bad Stuff’

Share

R. Daniel Foster’s essay has so many different layers to it (“True Love,” Dec. 11). I remember the weddings I have attended, including my own, and how surreal they felt. I realize that throughout our lives we edit events just as a videographer does. We leave out the bad stuff and remember those special moments that make us feel all is perfect.

I also recognize that simple things are usually more precious than many showy events that lack humanity. I hope all of the people in Foster’s videos have a happy life, but I would put my money on his niece and her husband. They posed together silently in their still photographs--and that is reality.

I very much enjoyed Foster’s essay. It was a simple piece, but not simplistic. I loved the empathy, heart and honesty with which it was written.
