From Times Wire Reports

U.N. peacekeepers fired warning shots and tear gas at protesters trying to breach the security walls of the world body’s headquarters in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. In San Pedro, west of Abidjan, protesters hurled firebombs into a United Nations office, but no injuries were reported.

A U.N. official accused the government of orchestrating the demonstrations.

Protests began Monday after U.N.-backed mediators said over the weekend that the mandate of the West African nation’s parliament had expired last month and it should be dissolved.
