U.S. Envoy Warns New Delhi on Iran Vote

The U.S. ambassador said a nuclear deal with India could die if New Delhi supports Iran’s position on its nuclear program in an International Atomic Energy Agency vote. The State Department said the envoy was not speaking for the government.

Ambassador David C. Mulford said that if India did not vote next week to refer Tehran to the U.N. Security Council, the deal “will die in Congress.”

India rejected linking the issues. Under the deal, Washington is to share civilian technology and supply nuclear fuel to India, which is to separate its civilian and military programs and allow international inspections.
