Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox, 53, will have surgery Monday to remove a thymoma, a tumor of the lymphatic system, the agency said.

In an e-mail to commission staff, Cox said he was expected to make a full recovery and planned to return to the office in two weeks. The thymus is part of the lymphatic system and makes white blood cells.
