Museum woes

RE “Southwest Museum’s Future at Heart of Tussle,” by Christopher Reynolds, June 26: Many things have been said about the financial cost of running the Southwest Museum, but with its closure there are other costs to the community that have not been communicated. Many people are not aware that Los Angeles has one of the largest Native American populations in the United States; the Southwest Museum is the only museum in Los Angeles strictly dedicated to Native American culture. It serves as a bridge between the Native American community and the community at large.

With the closure of the Southwest Museum, that bridge is lost. It cannot be replaced within the context of the Autry National Center.
