The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan or Iraq:

Kevin F. Edgin, 31, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; private first class, Army. Edgin was killed Thursday when his convoy was attacked with small-arms fire in the Baghran Valley area of southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province. He was assigned to the 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

William T. Flanigan, 37, of Milan, Tenn.; chief warrant officer third class, Army National Guard. Flanigan was killed July 2 when his Apache attack helicopter crashed soon after takeoff from Kandahar Airfield in southern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 278th Armor Cavalry Regiment, Army National Guard in Jackson, Tenn.

Collin T. Mason, 20, of Staten Island, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Mason was killed July 2 when he encountered indirect fire -- a military term for mortar or other artillery shelling -- while manning a checkpoint in his vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jeffrey A. McLochlin, 45, of Rochester, Ind.; sergeant major, Army National Guard. McLochlin was killed Wednesday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Orgun, Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 152nd Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in Marion, Ind.

Kyle R. Miller, 19, of Willmar, Minn.; specialist, Army National Guard. Miller was killed June 29 when a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy in Mosul, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment, Army National Guard in New Ulm, Minn.

James P. Muldoon, 23, of Bells, Texas; sergeant, Army. Muldoon died June 29 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries suffered earlier that day when he was shot while manning a control point in Baqubah, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 68th Combined Arms Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Paul S. Pabla, 23, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Pabla was killed by a sniper Monday while on foot patrol in Mosul, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 139th Field Artillery, Army National Guard in Kempton, Ind.

Carl Jerome Ware Jr., 22, of Smyrna, Del.; airman first class, Air Force. Ware was shot to death July 1 by someone on his base at Camp Bucca in southern Iraq, an internment center for captured insurgents. Military officials said they were investigating the shooting to determine if it was accidental or deliberate. He was assigned to the 15th Security Forces Squadron at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
