McKellen to do solo show

Share

British stage and screen veteran Ian McKellen, most widely known in recent years as Gandalf in “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, will perform a solo show, “A Knight Out in Los Angeles With Ian McKellen,” Saturday and Sunday at the Freud Playhouse at UCLA.

An evening of storytelling and revisiting favorite roles -- Gandalf included -- the performance will benefit the Los Angeles Young Actors’ Company and marks the latest edition of the show that the actor tours internationally on behalf of local charities.

The Hollywood-based nonprofit Young Actors’ Company, led by Edward Wilson, former director of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, is the new performance wing of the California Youth Theatre.
