Birds Eye to Close or Sell Six Processing Plants
- Share via
Birds Eye Foods Inc., the nation’s largest processor of branded frozen vegetables, is exiting nearly all of its non-branded businesses, closing a plant in California and selling or shutting down three in western New York state and two others in Georgia and Wisconsin within a year.
Shutting down the Watsonville, Calif., plant will cost about 550 full-time jobs.
The company, based in Rochester, N.Y., said it wanted to focus its efforts on its branded businesses. The overhaul will affect about 1,400 of its 2,800 employees.
