Troops Advance on Rebel Blockade

Sri Lankan troops advanced toward Tamil Tiger territory to smash a rebel blockade of water supplies for government-held villages, as hostilities escalated toward a full-scale war.
Earlier, air force planes bombed rebel positions in the area of the blockade in northeastern Trincomalee, a government spokesman said.
