Work on Gas Field Delayed, Chevron Says

From Bloomberg News

Chevron Corp. said a dispute between Venezuela and Caribbean neighbor Trinidad and Tobago is stalling development of an offshore field that may hold enough natural gas to supply almost two years of demand by the United States.

Chevron has drilled successful wells on both sides of the Deltana platform, which straddles the two countries. The oil company is pushing the countries to reach an agreement so it can develop the field, Chief Executive Dave O’Reilly said.

The field may hold as much as 38 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

O’Reilly said the company had received “no official notification” of any contract changes in Venezuela, where President Hugo Chavez is tightening his hold over the company’s oil and gas resources.
