Udriga Returns From Arizona for Home Debut in Inglewood

Share

Udriga was bred in California, but the 4-year-old General Gem filly has yet to race in her home state.

That will change tonight when Udriga, who has done all of her racing so far in Arizona, makes her Hollywood Park debut in the fifth race, a $40,000 claimer for older fillies and mares at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

Racing exclusively at Turf Paradise, Udriga has been consistent for trainer Eric Kruljac, who bred the chestnut and owns her in partnership with Peter Mizioch.

She has been first or second in eight of her nine starts, including a win and two seconds in three outings on grass.

In her most recent start, Udriga faced males and ran well. She was second as the 9-5 favorite, finishing one length behind King Justin in the $25,000 Rio Oro on May 20.

Jon Court will ride Udriga tonight in the first leg of the late pick four and she will break from the rail in a field that includes eight others, including the streaking Dramatic Chance.

A 5-year-old American Chance mare, Dramatic Chance has won three in a row at Golden Gate Fields and Hollywood Park.

Race of the day: Zinzan, who beat maidens by 6 1/2 lengths in his last start at Keeneland on April 28, will stretch to 1 1/16 miles as he makes his Belmont Park debut in the seventh race today. John Velazquez will be aboard the 3-year-old Grand Slam colt for owners Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor and trainer Todd Pletcher in the $46,000 optional claimer. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of more than $29,000.

One for the road: No Saint goes route to sprint and turf to dirt for trainer Ed Moger Jr. in the fourth race tonight at Bay Meadows. Frank Alvarado stays with the son of Gold Saga in the $12,500 claimer at six furlongs. No Saint has scored both his wins at the distance.
