Japan Agrees to Resume U.S. Beef Imports
From Reuters
Japan has agreed to resume U.S. beef imports, suspended for five months because of concerns about mad cow disease, after it inspects U.S. beef processing plants authorized to supply the Asian country, a Japanese official said on Wednesday.
Japan’s ban has been a thorny issue. Before the ban, Japan was the top importer of U.S. beef, buying 240,000 metric tons valued at $1.4 billion in 2003.
