It’s All a Matter of Politics--or Not

Share

I enjoyed the article “Over the Hedge” by Shawn Hubler (June 4). It’s refreshing to read about individuals who can live nearby and socialize with each other despite religious and political differences. Considering the fact that we are fighting a war because adults in another country have difficulty understanding this type of behavior, hopefully the neighborhood Hubler described is not a rarity in this country.

One of Hubler’s subjects wrapped up the story by saying, “There’s a helluva lot more to life than politics.” Ask a mom who just lost her son in Iraq whether “there’s a helluva lot more to life than politics.” Ask a man who lost his job because of a political decision that outsourced jobs overseas. Ask a woman with cancer who is unable to access proper treatment because politicians have barred universal healthcare. Ask a teenager who can’t even afford community college because politicians have other priorities.

Politicians established our Constitution and our way of life more than 200 years ago, and politicians now are busy shredding the Constitution and sending the country into spiraling debt that will impact us all.
