A U.S. judge has approved a settlement between Western Digital Corp. and a class-action group of hard-drive purchasers.

Buyers contended that the Lake Forest-based company overstated its hard disk drives’ storage capacities by about 7%.

Western Digital will give free backup and recovery software worth $30 to members of the class. About 1 million purchasers are eligible.
