‘Crash’ gets Humanitas pat

The Oscar-winning “Crash” picked up another honor Wednesday as writers Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco won the feature film category of the annual Humanitas Prizes for movie and TV screenplays that “entertain, engage and enrich the viewing public.”

Among other winners were Richard Curtis for the TV movie “The Girl in the Cafe” on HBO; David Shore for an episode of Fox’s “House” and Greg Garcia for the pilot of NBC’s “My Name Is Earl.”

Still singing: NBC will salute Tony Bennett’s 80th birthday with a special, “Tony Bennett: An American Classic,” to air this fall. Guests will include Elton John, Stevie Wonder, k.d. lang and John Legend, who perform on Bennett’s upcoming album.

Not singing: Sleater-Kinney, the critically acclaimed female rock trio, says it will go on “indefinite hiatus” after completing its upcoming summer concerts. No reason was given.

Charitable: Action star Jackie Chan said Wednesday that he has bequeathed half of his fortune to charity, adding he looks up to philanthropists like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. The exact amount involved, however, wasn’t clear, because the 52-year-old performer declined to reveal his net worth.
