Nicolas Cage gift boosts Amnesty

Actor Nicolas Cage announced Wednesday that he’s donating $2 million to support Amnesty International’s efforts to rehabilitate child soldiers. The donation was announced in New York at a United Nations meeting on the issue.

In a videotaped statement, Cage said he was making the contribution “to raise awareness” about the estimated 300,000 young soldiers who are recruited to fight in countries around the world, often on behalf of arms traffickers.

Amnesty International said it would distribute the funds to service providers who provide rehabilitation shelters, medical services, psychological and reintegration services.
