‘Sex and the City’ and friends

Share

I just had to write to say my eye caught Hilary Hull’s article in the paper the other day [“One Best Friend Replacement, Please, and Hurry,” Feb. 23]. It made me smile, laugh and say to myself, “Very cool.”

I think that when we look to make friends, we are ultimately looking for someone who is like ourselves. For example, most of my closest girlfriends are educated, confident, worldly/cultured, fun and well traveled. Though I do not know you, I sense that in you from your article.

The SATC [“Sex and the City”] references were great. I use them quite a lot too, especially with my best gay friend, who ultimately got me hooked on the show just as it was ending.

My most recent reference was once made unknowingly. I was on the phone with my friend talking about working out. I said, “It’s the Pilates!” and he said, “That’s a Samantha quote....” It really is amazing how embedded the language from that show has become in the American mind-set.
