The suspected leader of a gang accused of torturing to death a young Jewish man near Paris was extradited to France.

Youssef Fofana, a Frenchman of Ivorian descent, left Abidjan on a French military plane. He was arrested in Ivory Coast in late February, but President Laurent Gbagbo didn’t sign the extradition order until Friday.

Ilan Halimi, 23, was abducted in January and found weeks later, naked, handcuffed and covered with burn marks. He died on his way to a hospital.
