Lawsuits Allege Cargo Price Fixing by Airlines
Japan Airlines Corp., British Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa and other companies contacted in a government air-cargo price-fixing investigation have been sued by customers in at least 20 U.S. antitrust actions.
The carriers were sued by customers claiming that they were overcharged for shipping on the airlines. The suits were filed in Washington, New York, Chicago and Newark, N.J., after authorities raided airline offices for evidence of price fixing.
The suits seek class-action status and threaten to force the airlines to pay judgments that could include triple damages under U.S. antitrust law.
