From Times Wire Reports

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns told his Japanese counterpart face-to-face at a London trade meeting of a possible new U.S. case of mad cow disease, a spokesman said.

Conclusive test results from federal scientists in Ames, Iowa, are expected within a week. The USDA spokesman said initial alerts often were false.

Discovery of the suspect animal came at a delicate time in U.S. efforts to rebuild beef exports, especially in Japan and South Korea.
