Dig into agribusiness

Re “For UFW, Contracts Are Give and Take,” March 20

It continues to surprise me that The Times spends so much time beating up on the United Farm Workers without acknowledging the incredible opposition it has faced from agribusiness in California.

As writer Carey McWilliams wrote during the era of John Steinbeck, California farms are really more like “factories in the field.”

Perhaps an expose on how agribusiness spends its money wining and dining policymakers and crushing organizing efforts would help shed a more even and fair light on the failure of the UFW to organize more workers.
