Court-Martial to Start for Decorated Soldier

A soldier awarded a Purple Heart for combat injuries in Iraq faces a court-martial today on charges he killed his young wife with knives and a meat cleaver.
Spc. Brandon Bare, 20, of Wilkesboro, N.C., could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder and indecent acts related to the mutilation of 18-year-old Nabila Bare on July 12, 2005.
Opening statements at Bare’s general court-martial are expected this morning at Fort Ft. Lewis, south of Seattle.
