12th fire victim recovered in Reno
Crews working with search dogs recovered a 12th victim of Reno’s deadliest fire, a Halloween blaze that charred most of a historic brick hotel in the downtown casino district.
Authorities finished operations aimed at shoring up the shell of the 84-year-old Mizpah Hotel and thought recovery would be completed by Thursday, Reno fire spokesman Steve Frady said.
“There is always the potential for additional victims to be found, but we’re getting close to the end of that point,” he said.
Valerie Moore, 47, a casino cook and paroled killer, is being held without bail in the case. Police think she started the blaze by igniting a mattress inside the residential hotel.
