Alleged Marine Deserter Is Discharged, Released
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A 63-year-old man arrested last month on suspicion of deserting from the Marine Corps in 1966 has been given an other-than-honorable discharge and released, officials said Tuesday.
Victor Aguirre, a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody Sept. 15 as he tried to cross the border at San Ysidro, Calif., from his home in Mexico. The felony warrant from 1966 was discovered during a routine computer check.
