A new computer system that shares data among law enforcement agencies in the county has already helped authorities nab a pair of suspected robbers, Police Chief William J. Bratton said Thursday.

The $1.3-million CopLink system allowed detectives in the Van Nuys Division to link a vehicle description, and what they thought was a partial license plate number, to a suspect arrested with an accomplice after officers saw them snatching a purse from a 65-year-old woman who used a cane.

“Information has become the lifeline of policing,” Bratton said.
