Media rights groups and family members demanded a thorough investigation in the death of an Acapulco correspondent for Mexico’s top television news network who was gunned down after his radio show in what appeared to be a hit.
Televisa reporter Amado Ramirez was shot late Friday by two men who were waiting at his car. He died on the steps of the nearby Hotel California as he tried to flee, a state security official said. The gunmen escaped.
The shooting occurred on the outskirts of Acapulco’s busy central plaza, which was packed with tourists and others attending a Good Friday Mass at the beach resort’s cathedral. No one else was injured.
